Meet Your Teacher
Hi, I’m Maria! I was born in New York and working as a New York City High School CTE art teacher and contemporary representational artist. While working towards my undergraduate degree at the School of Visual Arts, I began freelancing, illustrating trade and mass-market paperback covers. After graduating, I studied in academic schools such as the New York Academy and National Academy and was awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio School. In 2017, I earned a master's degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and I am pursuing teaching online because I love to paint and enjoy teaching others.
Taking this course will help elevate your skills.
Throughout this course, we will delve into the fundamental aspects of painting, shedding light on essential concepts such as values, from the brightest highlights to the deepest shadows. You will gain valuable insights into the art of mixing skin tones and working with warm and cool colors. This includes understanding the selection of paints, brushes, and mediums to achieve the desired effects in your artwork.
The skills honed during this course will equip you to produce professional-quality portrait paintings. These finished pieces can be proudly displayed in galleries, added to your high school and/or college portfolio, or portrait commissions. As you journey through this art experience, you will continually refine your oil painting expertise and gradually discover your unique artistic voice.
